چکیده

We examined the efficiency of the flux-gate magnetometers, MB-160 and MB-162, Shimadzu, which we use for variation observation at the Kakioka Magnetic Observatory. We also examined our method and the equipment for the calibration of the installed calibration apparatus in the flux-gate magnetometer. On the basis of examinations, we obtained the following conclusions: 1. Using our equipment for the calibration at Kakioka, which is composed of mainly one set of 3-axial Helmholtz coil, we can calibrate the installed calibration apparatus within an accuracy of 0.1%. 2. When we use the flux-gate magnetometer with the resolution of 0.1 nT, we can extend the range of the observation from ±500 nT to ±600 nT with a sufficient linearity. 3. The output signal for the calibration which is generated by the installed apparatus in the flux-gate magnetometer is stable. With the use of this installed apparatus, therefore, we are able to calibrate the scale value during the observation.

Magnetic Calibration of Three-Axis Strapdown Magnetometers for Applications in Mems Attitude-Heading Reference Systems

In a strapdown magnetic compass, heading angle is estimated using the Earth's magnetic field measured by Three-Axis Magnetometers (TAM). However, due to several inevitable errors in the magnetic system, such as sensitivity errors, non-orthogonal and misalignment errors, hard iron and soft iron errors, measurement noises and local magnetic fields, there are large error between the magnetometers'...

Real Time Calibration of Strap-down Three-Axis-Magnetometer for Attitude Estimation

Three-axis-magnetometers (TAMs) are widely utilized as a key component of attitude determination subsystems and as such are considered the corner stone of navigation for low Earth orbiting (LEO) space systems. Precise geomagnetic-based navigation demands accurate calibration of the magnetometers. In this regard, a complete online calibration process of TAM is developed in the current research t...

Calibration of Magnetometers with GNSS Receivers and Magnetometer-Aided GNSS Ambiguity Fixing

Magnetometers provide compass information, and are widely used for navigation, orientation and alignment of objects. As magnetometers are affected by sensor biases and eventually by systematic distortions of the Earth magnetic field, a calibration is needed. In this paper, a method for calibration of magnetometers with three Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers is presented. We p...

The FIELDS Instrument Suite on MMS: Scientific Objectives, Measurements, and Data Products

The FIELDS instrumentation suite on the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission provides comprehensive measurements of the full vector magnetic and electric fields in the reconnection regions investigated by MMS, including the dayside magnetopause and the night-side magnetotail acceleration regions out to 25 Re. Six sensors on each of the four MMS spacecraft provide overlapping measurements of ...

A two-step self-calibration method for three-axis field sensors

A self-calibration method was proposed to compensate the drawback generated by classic ellipsoid fitting algorithm. In this paper magnetometers and accelerometers were chosen to obtain geomagnetic field and gravitational field for TRIAD algorithm. The first step is using the classic ellipsoid fitting to calibrate the magnetic vector, which is taken as an internal reference in the second step. D...
